Jerry Reuss scattered five hits in twirling the Dodgers to a 4-0 blanking of the Astros, giving Los Angeles the N.L. West Division title and capping a comeback that saw the Dodgers win three straight after losing the first two games of the series.

The Dodgers broke the scoreless tie in the sixth inning. Dusty Baker drew a one-out walk, moved to third on a single by Steve Garvey and scored on a single by Rick Monday. One out later, a single by Mike Scioscia plated Garvey. The third run of the inning came in when Houston first baseman Denny Walling was unable to handle a throw from third baseman Art Howe.
