. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Reggie Jackson, Oscar Gamble and Rick Cerone hit home runs, powering the Yankees to a 7-3 triumph over the Brewers in the deciding game of the American League East Division Series. The Brewers, who had squared the series after losing two games in Milwaukee, took the lead when Gorman Thomas homered off Ron Guidry in the second. They made it 2-0 in the third on a single by Ed Romero, walk to Paul Molitor, single by Robin Yount and Cecil Cooper's sacrifice fly.

Jackson tied the score in the fourth with his second homer of the playoff, following a single by Larry Milbourne. The blast against the facade of the upper deck in right field was Jackson's 16th in postseason play. Mike Caldwell relieved Moose Haas and yielded singles to Graig Nettles and Bob Watson before he was replaced by Dwight Bernard. Cerone's forceout of Watson produced the fourth run of the inning.

Dave Righetti relieved Guidry in the fifth and became the winner despite allowing a run in the seventh on Yount's triple and a single by Cooper. Cerone rapped his round-tripper in the seventh, and the Yankees wrapped up the scoring with two runs in the eighth on singles by Milbourne and Jackson, run-scoring double by Lou Piniella and Graig Nettles' sacrifice fly.
