Dale Murphy collected a single, double, homer and two RBIs to spark the Braves to a 6-4 decision over the Padres. The Braves scored three runs in the third inning on run-scoring singles by Brett Butler and Claudell Washington and Murphy's RBI two-bagger.

Murphy drilled a solo round-tripper in the sixth and Atlanta added singletons in the seventh and ninth on a groundout by Glenn Hubbard and a single by Butler. Bob Walk pitched seven innings to notch the victory. [The Sporting News]
