. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Scattering four hits, Geoff Zahn recorded the first A.L. shutout of the season in pitching the Angels to a 7-0 blanking of the A's, California's first victory of the campaign. A walk to Rick Burleson, single by Fred Lynn, double by Rod Carew and grounder by Reggie Jackson produced two runs in the first inning, and the score became 4-0 in the third on doubles by Lynn and Carew and a sacrifice fly by Doug DeCinces. Brian Downing homered leading off the sixth and delivered a sacrifice fly in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
