A two-run double by Luis Pujols in the sixth inning was the key hit as the Astros shaded the Cardinals, 3-2. Houston took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI double by Tony Scott and boosted their lead to 3-0 in the sixth when Art Howe drew a two-out walk, Scott followed with a single and Pujols lined his two-bagger into the left field corner. Joe Niekro pitched until Darrell Porter blasted a solo homer with one out in the ninth. Joe Sambito relieved and retired the next two batters to earn the save.
