A first-inning gramd slam by Amos Otis lifted the Royals to a 4-3 victory over the Tigers in the season-opening game for Detroit. Otis' swat was set up by singles by Tom Poquette and John Wathan and an intentional walk to Willie Aikens after George Brett advanced the runners with a flyout.
