St. Louis reliever Mark Littell was the goat of the game as the Pirates spoiled the Cardinals' home opener by beating the Redbirds, 11-7. Littell took over the pitching chores at the start of the seventh inning with the score tied, 7-7, and promptly gave up a double to Johnny Ray.

Dale Berra laid down a sacrifice bunt and Littell, attempting to get the runner at third, threw the ball away. Ray scored on the play and Berra reached third, from where he came home on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Jason Thompson off Doug Bair produced the third run of the inning after Littell walked the bases loaded. [The Sporting News]
