In the opening games of the season for both teams, the White Sox swept a twin bill from the Yankees, 7-6 in 12 innings in the first game, and 2-0 behind the combined five-hit pitching of Britt Burns and Salome Barojas in the nightcap. The lidlifter was deadlocked at 6-6 when Bill Almon began the 12th with a 425-foot triple to left-center. He scored on a single by Ron LeFlore through the drawn-in infield.

In the second game, the Pale Hose scored both their runs in the sixth inning. Almon stroked a one-out single and, one out later, tallied on a double by Bernazard, who came in on a single by Steve Kemp. [The Sporting News]
