Rallying with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cardinals shaded the Pirates, 7-6. The Bucs had taken a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth on doubles by Willie Stargell and Omar Moreno.

After the first two Redbirds were retired in the bottom of the frame, pinch-hitter Orlando Sanchez walked and was replaced by pinch-runner Gene Roof, who raced home on Julio Gonzalez' triple. After a walk to Ozzie Smith, Dane Iorg singled home the decisive run. [The Sporting News]
