The Mariners and A's split a doubleheader, the Mariners winning the opener, 6-3 in 16 innings, and the A's taking the second contest, 3-1, as Rick Langford went the route despite giving up 11 hits and walking two. The first game was tied, 3-3, when the Mariners loaded the bases in the top of the 16th on walks to Richie Zisk and Joe Simpson and a single by Jim Maler. Jim Essian then cleared the sacks with a two-bagger to left-center.

Dwayne Murphy broke out of an 0-for-23 slump with a double to key the A's victory in the second game. His two-bagger in the third inning scored Fred Stanley and sent Rickey Henderson to third, from where he came in on a wild pitch. [The Sporting News]
