Juan Eichelberger and Gary Lucas combined on a five-hitter to outduel Fernando Valenzuela and lead the Padres to a 2-0 victory over the Dodgers. Garry Templeton broke out of a 2-for-25 slump with a pair of singles, including a run-scoring hit in the first inning following consecutive safeties by Gene Richards and Juan Bonilla to lead off the game. Lucas, who earned his third save, walked with the bases loaded in the seventh for the other San Diego run to send Valenzuela to the showers. [The Sporting News]
