A two run double by Terry Kennedy capped a three-run first inning and powered the Padres to a 4-3 victory over the Dodgers for their fourth straight win. In the meantime, San Diego handed Los Angeles its fourth straight setback. The Dodgers opened the game with a run, but the Padres retaliated on an RBI double by Garry Templeton and the game-winning two-bagger by Kennedy.
