. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Braves established a modern major league record for victories at the start of a season when they recorded their 12th straight triumph, downing the Reds, 4-2. The Braves were behind, 2-1, when they came up with three runs in the bottom of the third inning on a leadoff homer by Rafael Ramirez, two-out walk to Glenn Hubbard, tie-breaking triple by Claudell Washington and a wild pitch.

The first Atlanta run had come in the second frame on a homer by Chris Chambliss. Steve Bedrosian, coming on in relief in the second inning and pitching out of a bases-loaded jam, received credit for his first major league victory. [The Sporting News]
