Unfurling a brilliant one-hitter, Milt Wilcox hurled the Tigers to an 8-0 whitewashing of the Royals. The lone hit was a single with one out in the second inning as shortstop Alan Trammell fell down trying to field a grounder by Jerry Martin to the left field side of second base. The Tigers scored six runs in the second inning on a two-run double by Glenn Wilson, RBI single by Lou Whitaker, two-run double by Chet Lemon and run-scoring double by Enos Cabell.
