Claudell Washington's two-run single with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning enabled the Braves to edge the Reds, 4-3, and record their 13th straight triumph. Atlanta trailed, 3-2, when Matt Sinatro led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk and Rafael Ramirez followed with an infield hit.

One out later, Brett Butler's grounder to short hit Sinatro for the second out of the frame. A wild pitch by Jim Kern and intentional walk to pinch-hitter Biff Pocoroba loaded the bases before reliever Joe Price surrendered a sharp single to center by Washington to keep intact the Braves' perfect record.
