Yielding just four hits, Pat Underwood pitched the Tigers to a 4-1 decision over the Royals, Detroit's fifth consecutive victory. The Tigers jumped ahead in the first inning on a two-run homer by Kirk Gibson and picked up two more runs in the eighth on a single by Glenn Wilson, double by Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker's two-run double.
