The St. Louis pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Cardinals extended their winning skein to 10 games by scuttling the Pirates, 6-2. The Redbirds trailed, 1-0, when Ozzie Smith led off the fifth with a double and Steve Mura reached first on a fielder's choice.

After Lonnie Smith flied out, Tommy Herr drilled a two-run double, reached third when Dave Parker misplayed the ball in the right field corner and scored on a sacrifice fly by Keith Hernandez. Gene Tenace led off the sixth with his first homer of the year. [The Sporting News]
