The Tigers recorded their seventh straight victory, a 9-1 rout of the Yankees, as Dan Petry went the route on a seven-hitter. The Tigers scored twice in the second inning on an RBI single by Alan Trammell and sacrifice fly by Lou Whitaker, and Larry Herndon tripled in a run and scored on an infield grounder by John Wockenfuss in a two-run third. The Tigers kayoed Dave Righetti in the fourth as they upped their margin to 6-0 on an RBI single by Chet Lemon and a sacrifice fly by Herndon. [The Sporting News]
