A pair of three-run innings boosted the Angels to a 7-2 victory over the A's. After Brian Downing hit his sixth homer of the season to offset the A's first-inning run, the Angels notched three runs in the second on a wild pitch, single by Downing and sacrifice fly by Rod Carew.

A two-run single by Tim Foli and run-scoring single by Bob Boone accounted for three runs in the third inning. A's starter Matt Keough was ejected in that frame by third base umpire Rich Garcia after he ignored warnings to refrain from going to the nape of his neck. [The Sporting News]
