The Redbirds got three runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles by George Hendrick, Dane Iorg and Ozzie Smith, and three more in the sixth on singles by Bob Forsch, Lonnie Smith, Tommy Herr and Keith Hernandez and an error by left fielder Gary Matthews.
