Dave Concepcion, Johnny Bench and Mike Vail each drove in one run to lead the Reds to a 3-2 decision over the Astros. The Reds broke on top in their first turn at bat when Ron Oester got an infield hit and scored on a double by Concepcion, who then stole third and tallied on a single by Bench.
