Rick Dempsey's two-run homer in the fifth inning and timely defensive plays in the ninth enabled the Orioles to edge the White Sox, 2-1. The Sox threatened in the ninth, but two Sox baserunners were thrown out.

Pinch-hitter Rudy Law singled and stole second but was thrown out at third on Jerry Hairston's grounder to second baseman Rich Dauer. Ron LeFlore then doubled to left, but Hairston was thrown out at the plate on a perfect relay from Gary Roenicke to Bob Bonner to Dempsey. After LeFlore moved up on a wild pitch, Tippy Martinez came in and struck out Steve Kemp to end the game. [The Sporting News]
