A grand slam by Jeff Leonard -- the first of his career -- climaxed a five-run rally in the eighth inning that lifted the Giants to a 6-3 triumph over the Dodgers. The Giants trailed, 3-1, entering the bottom of the eighth, but filled the bases with one out.

Then Steve Howe replaced Fernando Valenzuela on the mound for Los Angeles and struck out Joe Morgan. Dave Stewart then replaced Howe and Jack Clark beat out an infield hit for one run. Leonard followed by clearing the sacks with a drive over the center field fence. [The Sporting News]
