A three-run uprising in the first inning propelled the Angels to a 5-1 victory over the A's. The Angels loaded the bases on three hits in their first turn at bat and Reggie Jackson grounded out to first to produce the first run. Bobby Grich followed with a two-run single. Brian Downing cracked a leadoff homer in the fifth and Grich delivered a run-scoring double later in that frame.
