A four-run rally in the fourth inning enabled the Cubs to end their four-game losing streak by defeating the Pirates, 5-3. The Cubs trailed, 3-0, going into the bottom of the fourth when Keith Moreland doubled and Jody Davis walked.

A double by Gary Woods delivered Moreland, and Larry Bowa doubled home two more runs. Steve Henderson then stroked a pinch-single to score Bowa. Bill Buckner's run-scoring single in the fifth gave the Cubs an insurance run. Randy Martz pitched scoreless relief over the final five frames for the victory. [The Sporting News]
