A two-run homer by Johnny Bench triggered the Reds to a 6-3 decision over the Cubs. The Reds were behind, 2-1, in the fifth inning when Bench unloaded his round-tripper to put Cincinnati ahead. The Reds locked up the game with a three-run outburst in the seventh on singles by Dave Concepcion and Bench, a two-run double by Cesar Cedeno and an error by left fielder Steve Henderson.
