A two-run single by David Green capped a four-run sixth inning that enabled the Cardinals to shade the Astros, 5-4. Trailing, 3-1, going into the bottom of the sixth, the Redbirds loaded the bases on a single by Tommy Herr and walks to Keith Hernandez and Darrell Porter.

Dave Smith, who issued the walk to Porter, also walked Dane Iorg and Ken Oberkfell, forcing in two runs and tying the game at 3-3. Green then greeted reliever Frank LaCorte with a two-run single.
