Homers by Keith Hernandez and George Hendrick paced the Cardinals to a 7-4 victory over the Cubs. Hernandez blasted a two-run round-tripper in the third inning and Hendrick delivered a solo swat in the fifth.

Bruce Sutter relieved in the seventh inning and, after uncorking a wild pitch that allowed the Cubs to score their third run of the frame, retired all seven batters he faced to notch his ninth save. The Redbirds put the game on ice in the eighth inning with sacrifice flies by Sutter and Lonnie Smith. [The Sporting News]
