Gaylord Perry pitched the Mariners to a 7-3 decision over the Yankees to become the 15th pitcher in major league history to reach the 300-victory level. Triples by Jim Maler and Al Cowens and a two-run single by Todd Cruz were the key blows in the Mariners' five-run third inning. Perry, at 43 the oldest active player in the majors, limited the Yankees to four hits over the first seven innings of his complete-game effort. [The Sporting News]
