A bases-loaded double by Chris Chambliss in the 10th inning was the decisive blow as the Braves downed the Cardinals, 6-3. The game was deadlocked, 3-3, when Glenn Hubbard walked to open the 10th. One out later, Dale Murphy singled and reached second when the Cards attempted unsuccessfully to get Hubbard at third. Pinch-hitter Bob Watson then was intentionally walked to load the bases. After John Martin went to a 2-0 count on Chambliss he was replaced by Jim Kaat, who threw one strike before Chambliss cleared the sacks with a shot into the left field corner. The Braves had tied the contest in the top of the ninth when St. Louis second baseman Tommy Herr bobbled a potential game-ending double play grounder by Biff Pocoroba with the bases loaded.
