Dave Kingman belted his 10th homer as the Mets edged the Giants, 3-2. Kingman's blast came with the bases empty in the first inning and gave the Mets a 2-0 lead. The first New York run came when George Foster bounced into a double play. The Giants loaded the bases with none out in the top of the ninth, but Neil Allen got the save by getting Milt May to hit into a forceout and getting Johnnie LeMaster on a line drive to second baseman Tom Veryzer, who doubled May off first to end the game.
