Exploding for six runs in the eighth inning, the Giants defeated the Mets, 8-3. Trailing, 2-1, the Giants loaded the bases with one out in the eighth on singles by Jim Wohlford and Johnnie LeMaster and a walk to pinch-hitter Dave Bergman.

Chili Davis then singled home two runs, another run scored on a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly by Darrell Evans accounted for the fourth run of the frame and Jack Clark capped the outburst with a two-run double. Three Giants relievers -- Jim Barr, Gary Lavelle and Greg Minton -- held the Mets to one hit over the last seven innings. [The Sporting News]
