Ron Reed, making his first start since 1977, scattered six hits over seven innings to be the winning pitcher as the Phillies blasted the Dodgers, 11-3. The veteran righthander helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly in the second and RBI single in the fifth.

Dodgers pitcher Bob Welch walked the bases loaded with two out in the first inning to set up a two-run single by George Vukovich. A streak of 18 consecutive stolen bases by the Phils' Bob Dernier was snapped in the second inning. [The Sporting News]
