Larry Herndon slammed three homers while driving in seven runs to lead the Tigers to an 11-9 victory over the A's. Herndon, who homered in his last at-bat May 16, hit a three-run homer in the first inning and two-run shots in the third and fifth. Thus he tied the major league record of four homers in consecutive plate appearances.

Jeff Burroughs blasted a grand slam for Oakland in the seventh inning to climax a six-run outburst that tied the game at 9-9. Lance Parrish broke the tie with a single in the bottom of the frame and Alan Trammell also got a run-scoring single. [The Sporting News]
