Collecting 18 hits, including homers by Jim Rice, Dwight Evans and Carl Yastrzemski, the Red Sox overpowered the A's, 8-7. Yaz had a two-run blast in the third inning and singles in the fifth and seventh to raise his average to .343. The Sox took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth on a single by Rich Gedman, triple by Glenn Hoffman and tie-breaking single by Jerry Remy. [The Sporting News]
