This game was deadlocked, 5-5, when John Stearns walked for the Mets with one out in the 12th, stole second and reached third on a flyout. Neil Allen then hit a slow roller down the third base line and Stearns broke for the plate. The ball was fielded by pitcher Randy Moffitt, who flipped to catcher Alan Ashby. Stearns crashed into Ashby and jarred the ball loose as he crossed the plate, giving the Mets a 6-5 win over the Astros.
