Taking advantage of Detroit misplays, the Angels tamed the Tigers, 7-2, behind Steve Renko's four-hit pitching. California scored twice in each of the first two innings as Detroit committed three of its four errors. First-inning runs came on an error by third baseman Tom Brookens and a run-scoring forceout.
