Taking advantage of Milwaukee miscues, the A's defeated the Brewers, 7-2, behind the three-hit pitching of Tom Underwood. The A's scored a run in the second inning when Milwaukee pitcher Bob McClure walked the bases loaded with two out and then committed a balk.

They added two runs in the fifth on a wild pickoff throw by McClure and an error by catcher Ned Yost. Mike Heath and Joe Rudi delivered RBI doubles in the seventh and Heath and Jeff Newman added RBI singles in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
