The Tigers and A's divided a doubleheader, the Tigers winning the opener, 5-2, behind the seven-hit hurling of Jack Morris, and the A's taking the nightcap, 10-3, as Rickey Henderson stole four bases to boost his total to 49 in 49 games. A two-run single by Alan Trammell put the Tigers ahead to stay in the first game, and Enos Cabell delivered a two-run single in the sixth.

The A's broke the second game open with a three-run uprising in the fifth inning, runs coming on an error by Detroit catcher John Wockenfuss, a single by Henderson and solo homer by Dwayne Murphy. Henderson singled home two runs in the eighth inning. [The Sporting News]
