The winning run scored on an error as the Phillies edged the Reds, 5-4 in 15 innings. With the game knotted, 4-4, Bob Dernier began the 15th with a single. He went to second on a sacrifice, reached third as Gary Matthews flied out and scored the winning run when Reds third baseman Johnny Bench made an errant throw to first on a grounder by Manny Trillo. The Phils had trailed, 4-0, going into the bottom of the ninth, but tied the contest on a two-run double by Bo Diaz and a two-run single by Garry Maddox. [The Sporting News]
