Mike Scioscia then hit a sacrifice fly and, after a walk to pinch-hitter Rick Monday, Ken Landreaux hit another sacrifice fly. The Pirates scored in the bottom of the frame on a solo homer by Jason Thompson and loaded the bases before Terry Forster came on to end the threat by getting Willie Stargell to fly out to center.
