A steal of home by Cal Ripken spurred the Orioles to an 8-7 decision over the Rangers. With the game tied, 3-3 in the sixth inning, Ripken singled, went to third on a single by Lenn Sakata and stole home as Sakata stole second. Al Bumbry then singled to plate Sakata.

The Birds got three runs in the eighth on Rich Dauer's single and a two-run homer by Ken Singleton. Texas rallied for four runs in the ninth on a three-run pinch-homer by Leon Roberts and a round-tripper by Larry Parrish, but Tippy Martinez came on to get the last two outs and earn his fourth save.
