A double by Pete Rose in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie and sparked the Phillies to a 4-2 decision over the Reds. Bob Dernier drew a two-out walk in the fifth, took second on a balk and came in on Rose's two-bagger. Gary Matthews followed with a single that plated Rose. The Phils' final run came in the sixth on a solo homer by Garry Maddox. Dick Ruthven got credit for his fifth straight victory. [The Sporting News]
