A two-run homer by Harold Baines enabled the White Sox to snap their seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 triumph over the Rangers. Baines connected in the seventh inning after Carlton Fisk drew a two-out walk. Salome Barojas, in relief of Britt Burns, earned his 12th save by coming on in the bottom of the frame and choking off a Texas rally.

Both teams had numerous threats early, only to have double plays kill them. In a bizarre fourth inning, the Sox failed to score though they had two hits, two stolen bases and the Rangers committed two errors. [The Sporting News]
