A three-run double by Bill Russell capped a four-run sixth inning that carried the Dodgers to a 6-2 triumph over the Cardinals and made Fernando Valenzuela the N.L.'s first eight-game winner. The game was deadlocked, 2-2, before the Dodgers went ahead, 3-2, in the sixth on consecutive singles by Steve Garvey, Dusty Baker and Pedro Guerrero.
