Following a day of rain which forced the postponement of the original N.L. Championship Series start after only 4½ innings, Bob Forsch took the mound for the Cardinals and hurled a three-hit shutout in leading St. Louis to a 7-0 triumph over the Braves.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Willie McGee led off with a triple into the right field corner and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ozzie Smith. The Redbirds then erupted for five hits and five runs -- both figures equalling LCS records for one inning -- in the sixth. George Hendrick, McGee and Ozzie Smith chipped in with run-scoring singles, while Forsch helped himself with a sacrifice fly and the fifth run came home on a fielder's choice grounder by Ken Oberkfell.
