Championship Series. The score was 3-3 when David Green opened the bottom of the ninth with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice and scored on Oberkfell's hit. The Redbirds had tied the game in the eighth on a run-scoring fielder's choice grounder by Willie McGee.

Atlanta took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI single by Rafael Ramirez and three-base error by center fielder McGee. The Braves upped the margin to 3-1 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Phil Niekro. The Cards got to within 3-2 in the sixth when Keith Hernandez singled and scored on a double by Darrell Porter.
