Phillips registered 130 yards on 15 carries, and one of these was a 76-yard dash up the middle. Sam Wyche passed for a TD to Essex Johnson and ran for another. Daryle Lamonica's 265-yard aerial barrage included a pair of TD passes to Fred Biletnikoff for the Raiders. Charley Johnson's first Oilers' start was a winning one as his TD passes to Jerry LeVias provided the Oilers with a 14-0 edge at the half. Terry Bradshaw, the NFL's No. 1 draft pick, gave way to Terry Hanratty midway in the game and Hanratty put the Steelers on the scoreboard with a TD pass to rookie Ron Shanklin. The game inaugurated regular-season competition in the new Pittsburgh stadium.
