John Hadl came off the bench and threw touchdown passes of 14 and 33 yards to Gary Garrison 41 seconds apart to snap a 7-7 tie and provide San Diego with its first victory of the season. Following Hadl's first TD pass, Charger Jeff Staggs recovered a Chicago fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Hadl connected with Garrison on the first play from scrimmage.
