Bidding to increase its 3-0 lead in the fourth period, Dallas drove 76 yards to the Detroit one-yard line on 16 consecutive running plays, but failed to score on fourth down. Three plays later, however, George Andrie and Jethro Pugh tackled Lions' quarterback Greg Landry in the end zone for a safety as the Cowboys recorded a 5-0 victory in the lowest scoring game in NFL playoff history. It marked the fifth straight game in which the Dallas defense did not allow a touchdown.
